Prof. Justin A. Akankali, PhD
Prof. Justin A. Akankali, PhD. is an accomplished environmental scientist and fisheries expert with over three decades of experience in academia, research and consultancy across. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Fisheries) and M.Sc. degress in Fisheries (Water Pollution) from the University of Benin, and M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Management from Rivers State University, Nigeria. Currently, he serves as a Professor of Environmental Studies and Climate Change at the University of Liberia and previously as Professor of Ecotoxicology and Fisheries (Aquatic Environmental Management) at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
His expertise spans environmental assessment, climate change resilience cum adaptation, aquatic ecology, pollution control and sustainable fisheries development. Prof. Akankali has served as a lead consultant to numerous national and international organizations, including the UNDP, FAO, GEF, EPA Liberia, NDDC, Federal Ministry of Environment (Nigeria), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and multinational oil and Gas production companies.
Most recently, he has led/been a team member of major studies on integrated coastal zone management, ecosystem restoration and socio-environmental policy reform. He is widely published, with over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and has represented Liberia and Nigeria in UN Climate Change Conferences and other international conferences.
As a registered environmental specialist and Fellow of several professional bodies, Prof. Akankali is recognized for his high expertise in environmental management, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience initiative programmes and projects.
